Fishing right now is outstanding with largemouth, spotted bass and walleye all beginning to bite and the white bass will begin later this month also.
We are catching mainly largemouth and spotted bass each day with the numbers ranging between 20 and 30 on each outing.
In the pictures, the walleye weighed 4.2 lbs, the largemouth weighed 5.6lbs and my client holding a 3lb spotted bass and 4lb largemouth. (Click on pictures for larger image.)
My schedule is filling up so I would encourage anyone wanting to come in and fish with me please call as soon as possible for open dates that I have remaining.

Due to high water at Lake Broken Bow, guide Bryce Archey has been taking his clients west to Lake Raymond Gary. He sends us these pictures and reports:
Here are some of the quality fish we are catching on Lake Raymond Gary. The one with my client holding his fish is the biggest largemouth he has ever caught (top picture). It weighed close to 7lbs.
I will continue to take clients to Lake Raymond Gary for trophy largemouth. Anyone interested in the opportunity call reach me at 580-494-6447 or 870-582-4561 or visit my website at www.brokenbowlakeguide.com.
Also, Lake Broken Bow received more rain last night and the lake is coming back up and could get higher than before. I will keep you updated if they close our last ramp.
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report Bryce. Looks like an excellent fishing trip!!
Here is a picture of a big bass caught recently at Lake Sooner. It weighed 7.8lbs. We caught 2 more that morning, one weighed 5.6lbs and the small one weighed 4.3lbs. In addition, we caught about 40 Hybrids and Stripers with the biggest striper being 10.lbs. It was a GOOD morning!!
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the picture and report David. To say it was a good morning is a bit of an understatement, wouldn’t you say?
Avid fisherman Jason Price sends us this report from Lake Sahoma, just southwest of Tulsa:
I caught this bass in early November on an ultralight rod and reel with a 1/0 crappie hook.
I was fishing for crappie at the enclosed dock and landed this guy – nice surprise to nail your line when looking at 1/2 lb crappie all day long!
We weighed him up at the station there right above the dock and he weighed 4lbs. 7 ozs., well on his way to getting to be a big ‘ol fat guy.
The locals say there are bass in Lake Sahoma commonly twice the size he was, so I am looking forward to some decent weather once all this ice and extreme cold goes away to get back there with some of the bass gear and hit some other spots on the lake.
Also there is another small lake directly next to Lake Sahoma, and in November, the Wildlife Department released some odd thousands of trout and catfish into, so if anyone is looking to trout fish, its a great place and perfect time of year to catch them…good luck to all.
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report Jason! Lots of times the smaller lakes are better trophy bass fisheries due to low fishing pressure and your experience proves it. Also, the Wildlife Department link above goes to the trout stocking schedule around Oklahoma.
If you haven’t fished Lake Broken Bow, I HIGHLY recommend that you get there as fast as you can! Located in theOuachita National Forest and at the foot of theKiamichi Mountains (and the Talimena Scenic Drive), you will not find a more picturesque place to go fishing in Oklahoma.
Bryce grew up in the area and has fished the lake his entire life. He won many tournaments there over the years before offering his services to the public. He knows how to get you on fish – quickly. We caught several dozen largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and kentucky (spotted) bass throughout the morning. I hooked a sizable smallmouth bass in Bryce’s favorite cove, but right when it got to the boat, the line broke – dang it! Later, that rascal jumped about 20 yards from the boat and shook loose my plastic worm!!
All in all, it was a fantastic trip – gorgeous scenery, fall foliage colors, and fish everywhere we went. I would like to tell you more, but I promised Bryce not to give away all his secrets.

P.S. Bryce and his wife are expecting their first son in January!!
Aspiring Pro Mike Diehl and I had the opportunity to fish Lake Texoma last Friday, and believe it or not, it was Mike’s first time on the lake! We had just a few hours and needed to maximize his introduction to the lake. Since I’ve fished Texoma for the last 22 years, I had the opportunity to be the “fishing guide” and showed him a few good spots.
The bass were biting well off the points just southeast of the Alberta Creek railroad bridge. I caught multiple small largemouth bass, while Mike managed to catch a large smallmouth bass. The stripers were also very active on topwater bite between the Alberta Creek railroad bridge and the Roosevelt bridge. The catfish appeared to be hitting multiple jugs near coves.
Mike’s Note:Lake Texoma is huge and it really surprised me as to how big it was in person. If you don’t get that way often, hiring a fishing guide would be a great investment for an action packed day of fishing at all the right spots.
Editor’s Note: Thanks again Mike for taking me out on your boat and allowing me to be a “fishing guide” for the day! I look forward to our next trip together!!
Aspiring pro Mike Diehl sends us this night fishing report from Lake Tom Steed:
If you have ever experienced the excitement of a bass exploding on a top water lure it’s time to take it to the next level. I headed out to Tom Steed Lake last night about 11:00PM to see if I could sneak up on some bass.
The bite was very slow and frankly I’m not sure if it will ever be the same again since the floods but the strikes were as exciting as it can get. There is nothing better in my book than a top water bite and to do it in the dark is even better. The water is calm and there is zero boat traffic, your senses are tuned in to every noise and the wham!!!!!! The explosion is just fantastic. One other great advantage is the heat is minimal and with a little bit of equipment and common since it can be a blast.
I hope to be out there again at 0300am tomorrow and fingers crossed I will have a better fish to display. The monsters come out at night!
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report Mike. BTW – my wife says you need to smile more in your pictures!
Avid fisherman Chris R. send us this Lake Lawtonka fishing report:
These two monsters came out of Lake Lawtonka in the shallows. I was using the Tournament Series® Stik-O™ Soft Plastic Jerkbait – 6” (candy corn) from Bass Pro and they work well!
The largemouth bass are feeding, but I have not had a smallmouth bass keeper yet this year. I will be back at Lawtonka on Sunday after church to see if anything is biting.
Editor’s Note: Way to go Chris! How much did those Hawgs weight? We look forward to hearing about your Sunday fishing trip.
Avid fisherman and aspiring pro Mike G. sends us this report from Lake Elmer Thomas:
Spent the day today at Lake Elmer Thomas with my brother in-law Peter R. from California. It was our last chance to fish before his return, so we tried fishing a new lake that neither of us had fished before.
The bite at Lake Elmer Thomas was slow but was there. I caught two bass on the top but they were also chasing jigs in deep water. The hydrilla is a beast and makes the fishing tricky but the fish can be found at the edge of the grass on jigs, and worms.
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report and picture Mike! Hope Pete had a great time. Wish my brother-in-law liked to fish…
